The Key Aims of Year 5 Key Stage Maths

During Year 5 Key Stage Maths, pupils should extend their understanding of numbers, understanding the linkage between multiplication and division with fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio.

Pupils are expected to learn more complex properties of numbers, and to be able to apply their knowledge to problems requiring mental methods of calculation.

Pupils are introduced to algebra as a way of solving a variety of problems.

The use of geometry is also used throughout Year 5 to help consolidate a pupils understanding of numbers and their relation to angles, shapes, and transformations.
